Magneto-optical light scattering from ferromagnetic surfaces

چکیده
We have studied the optical and magneto-optical components of the light scattered by the surface of several Fe films with different morphologies. We present a method, based on the ratio between the optical and magneto-optical components of the scattered intensity, to discern the physical origin, either structural or magnetic corrugation, of the light scattered by these ferromagnetic surfaces. Surface versus bulk magnetic information can be separated by magneto-optical light scattering measurements, the scattered light being more sensitive to magnetization differences between surface and bulk than the reflected one. © 2003 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1537511#

Scattering theory formalism for the magneto-optics of nanocorrugated ferromagnet surfaces
A theoretical formalism that allows analysis of the magneto-optical response of nanocorrugated ferromagnetic surfaces is presented and its validity checked with measurements in expressly fabricated structures. The formalism uses conventional scattering theory to find the expressions that account for the power scattered per unit area, and finds that for particular light-scattering directions and...

Having precise hysterics loop of thin ferroelectric and ferromagnetic layers for optical switching and optical storages are important. A hysterieses loop can be achieved from a phenomenon call the magneto-optic effect. The magneto-optic effect is the rotation of a linear polarized electromagnetic wave propagated through a ferromagnetic medium. When light is transmitted through a layer of magnet...
متن کاملDevelopment of a Near-Field Magneto-Optical Microscopy for Studying Ultrafast Magnetization Dynamics
Apertureless magneto-optical near-field microscopy is developed for studying subpicosecond spindynamics at nanometer spatial scale. Polarization modulation and tip vibrations are implemented. Polarization responsivity of the tip-induced scattering is demonstrated using polarization modulation and tip vibrations. A near-field magneto-optical contrast is achieved for a thin ferromagnetic film wit...

Diffracted magneto optical Kerr effect (DMOKE) is a widely used technique for investigating magnetization distributions and reversal processes in periodic arrays of micron and submicron magnetic elements [1]. In most cases, the magnetic arrays are made of isolated magnetic entities where the magnetic interaction between them is limited to magnetic dipolar interactions. Little is known about wha...
متن کاملMagneto - chiral scattering of light : a new optical manifestation of chirality
We have investigated multiple scattering of light in systems subject to magneto-chiral (MC) effects. Our medium consists of magneto-optically active dipoles placed in a chiral geometry under the influence of an external magnetic field. We have calculated, for the first time, the total and the differential scattering MC cross sections of this system, explicitely showing that they are proportiona...
